Why Weight Loss Plans Fail
Why Weight Loss plans fail
How many times have you heard people stating that they want to lose weight? A lot right. And how many times do these same people say, when you ask them how they are going to do it: a) I’m going on diet b) I’m going to join the gym. Nearly all the time right…? At this point they are 150% motivated and firing on all cylinders. So the diet goes fab, the gym membership completed, but what happens? The first couple of weeks are great. They are happy, motivated, and losing weight. But by the time week three comes along, its a different story. They are starving, worn out, grumpy and guess what, they haven’t lost any weight this week or the weight loss is slowing down. So what do they do, they give up. Out come the cakes, biscuits, junk food and the apples and salads become long forgotton memories. So why do they fail?
When we are completely focussed on one thing (e.g. Pounds/Kilos Lost), that is great when everything is working well. But what about when they’re not going so well? This is the problem that a lot of people who wish to lose weight fail on, they put all their eggs in one basket, and when they don’t lose weight, out goes their motivation. There are a lot of other good ways to measure progress in this area such as how good you feel about yourself (on a scale of 1-10), your body fat percentage (have you gained muscle and lost fat?), inches/cm lost weight/hips etc, and whether your clothes fit any better. And when you are having a bad week with the weight loss, these other factors may make you feel good enough to keep you going until the weight does start coming off again. I encourage my coaching clients to focus on a 5 goal hollistic plan for weight loss, which is designed to keep motivation up when the pounds don’t come off and increase chances of success.
